My First Gay Wedding!
Freddy and Jason say "I Do!"
This past weekend was definitely something to remember. I was fortunate enough to be invited to my friend's Freddy and Jason's wedding. This happened to be my first wedding where two guys were able to celebrate their love for each other. They were surrounded by a ton of friends and family.
Now they actually had two ceremonies. The first was your traditional wedding with their family and close friends. And if you know these two, subtly is not their strong suit and both definitely think outside of the box. So in true Jason and Freddy fashion, they had a second ceremony that was held at the Dallas Eagle. They also had May May Graves, a very fabulous drag queen, perform the ceremony.
May May Graves opened up with a very pun-filled intro with "Queerly Beloved…we are gathered here to-gay". She kept the rest of the ceremony light, but you could still feel the love in everything she said. There was one part in the ceremony where she needed a shot of Fireball so I went and got her one. Now the awkward part was I did not know when an appropriate time would be to walk out and give her the shot. But that chance soon came when she started to get a little choked up. Talk about perfect timing.
She talked a little more and I remember just looking around and seeing pure simplejoy and happiness. I saw couples give little pecks and getting closer. I saw friends just hugging their friends. Most of all I saw nothing but smiles from everyone in that room. This to me was the true definition of love. Being able to come together, support each other, and to truly care for one another.
She ended the ceremony with the groom and groom saying "I do". She finally pronounced them husband and husband and that they could finally kiss. The rest of the night went on to have an amazing DJ where everyone was dancing and celebrating Jason and Freddy.
Now I am usually not the one to get all sappy and mushy on any occasion. But going through this experience and seeing the happiness in the room really did affect me. Very Grinch's heart grew a few sizes. But with Dallas Pride coming up, I can't help but want to celebrate a little more. Not the actual drinking and partying, but to celebrate what Pride really means. Celebrating friendships, love, and living your true self. We all know we could use some of that in the present climate of things.
So congratulation to Freddy and Jason, I truly wish you both a lifetime of happiness!
