One of my favorite things to do is reading. I remember when Matilda came out in theaters in 1997. She described reading as a way to get away and dive into another world. Not sure why that always stuck with me but it did.
I have always been a fan of fictional books. From magicians to dystopian worlds, they have always kept my attention. I remember I was in 8th grade and in my reading class we started Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. At first, it really didn’t catch my interest. I think it’s because I tried to be “cool” and since everyone else wasn’t a fan, I wasn't either. It wasn’t until the second book that I was hooked. I bought the 3rd book next and read that during our family vacation. I still have the same set of books and let’s just say they have a little wear and tear.
Now, I tried to do the whole kindle and be on the cutting edge. But honestly, I like having an actual book. Very Carrie Bradshaw, but I do enjoy the smell of books. Now if the books become worn, it is kind of like a battle scar and for me, it is just something to look back on.
Definitely, have to talk about one of my all-time favorite books. One book that I can read over and over is The Giver by Lois Lowry. I remember we had to read it in school and it stuck out to me because it had my name in the book. But ultimately, I truly enjoyed the book. I am actually reading that this month. Don’t get me started on the movie, it wasn’t the worst movie, but it definitely wasn't the best.
Like I said in my last post about straying away from movies, I have also done that with books. So again with it being a new year, I have committed to reading a book once a month. I already have a few lined up. Now I like my fiction, but I have also been interested in trying out some non-fiction.
So do you have any book suggestions for me?
